The Ford Explorer is Available in Erie, PA

The Ford Explorer first debuted nearly thirty years ago, just in time for the dawn of the 1990's. But, unlike "Friends," "ER," and the trendy haircuts and styles of the 90's, the Explorer has retained its fanbase, and continues to offer drivers the best of what they want in a vehicle. A three-row, powerful SUV that's perfect for families, the Explorer is available for you to shop and test drive here at Champion Ford Sales.

A lot has changed for the automotive industry, and the Ford Explorer, during the past three decades. The Explorer has gone from an SUV with a truck-base chassis, to one with the manners and maneuverability of car. But, it has kept its roomy, family-friendly size, and it has continually been updated and upgraded throughout the years to provide drivers with the modern safety advancements and technology features they want.

The Trims and Power of the Ford Explorer

There are a number of ways to configure the latest models in the Explorer lineup. You have your pick of trim levels, engines, and the choice of either second-row captain's chairs, which reduce overall capacity to six people, or a second-row bench, which allows for up to seven people.

There are five different trim levels and three engines for the Explorer, including:

  • Ford Explorer base model, which comes powered by a standard 3.5-liter V6 with 290 horsepower. However, if you want something a little different, you can order it with an optional, turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 280 horsepower instead.
  • Ford Explorer XLT, is equipped similarly to the base model, with the optional turbocharged four-cylinder available.
  • Ford Explorer Limited, reverses the options for the previous models, by making the turbocharged four-cylinder standard and the 290-horsepower V6 optional.
  • Ford Explorer Sport, ups the ante for power and performance, giving drivers standard power from a turbocharged V6 with 365 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque, as well a sports-tuned accents and suspension.
  • Ford Explorer Platinum, is the top-of-the-line for the Explorer. It loses the previous trim's sport-tuned suspension and is paired to the turbocharged V6.
